We first met Kiernan Shipka at eight years old, and from there her career grew as she did. Through her time in the industry, Shipka’s acting has evolved into a force of expertise and talent. As Shipka established herself in Hollywood she established a strong sense of style and fashion, too. Experimenting with makeup, clothing, and fragrances, Shipka created a nuanced form of personal expression, something she harnessed for her perfume campaign for Nina Le Parfum by Nina Ricci. Shipka discusses creative direction, personal style, and authenticity!

LG: Congratulations on your Nina Le Parfum campaign! How do you think perfumes and fragrances can contribute to developing a sense of self-confidence?

KS: Thank you! I love fashion because it can be such a powerful form of self-expression and storytelling. Perfumes and fragrances, to me, are really an extension of that story. If something feels like you, be it a scent or an item of clothing, or a piece of jewelry, there’s a real empowerment to owning that and wearing it confidently.

LG: People have signature scents that they are recognized for. What’s yours and what types of fragrances do you find yourself naturally gravitating towards?

KS: I really love anything floral. I usually tend to gravitate toward lighter scents, but I do like variety. Sometimes it depends on what I’m wearing and what I think the outfit or the night ahead calls for.

LG: What drew you to work with Nina Ricci on this campaign?

KS: I’ve been a long-standing fan of the brand and I was just thrilled when Harris Reed came on board. I think he’s a visionary with a truly one-of-a-kind eye, so the idea of working with him on this campaign was really a dream come true and such an automatic yes.

LG: How involved were you in the creative direction and development of this campaign?

KS: I’m friends with Harris, so lots of the creative direction was done on Nina’s end already knowing my vibe and who I am as a person and what I’m like… and then once we got on set, there was tons of room to play and find the essence of the campaign and the spirit of the perfume. It felt like a real collaboration.

LG: Similarly, how do you think your sense of fashion developed over the course of your time in Hollywood?

KS: It’s developed a lot just naturally as I’ve gotten older. Every once in a while, I either stop liking something or start liking something I never did before. And little by little, my style changes, and before I know it, I feel like I dress completely differently than I used to. The most important thing to me these days is feeling good. If something doesn’t feel like me, I don’t want to go out in it. Maybe that’s my style through line… I always like to be authentic.

LG: Do you have specific designers and brands that you personally like to support and wear? And why?

KS: Nina Ricci of course!! And I genuinely adore what Harris is bringing to the table. I love Valentino. I think Pierpaolo has done an amazing job at creating really iconic moments and lasting trends, all while maintaining the integrity of the brand. I adore Foundrae. Their pieces are very special to me and have been with me through a lot of key life moments. There’s something incredibly sentimental about jewelry to me.

LG: What has been your greatest recent personal fashion experience?

KS: I recently started doing my own eyeliner and I love it. I like simple cat eyes and for the longest time, I never did them myself. Now I do a little wing most nights I go out and it just feels really fun and sexy. It gives me that extra pep in my step.

LG: Can you share how you like to reset and fill your time when you’re not on set?

KS: Nothing fills me up quite like a dinner with friends. I crave that kind of laughter and that kind of comfortable, easy fun. That’s my favorite kind of reset when I feel a little too in my own head. I love reading and watching movies. I’m always trying to take life in and learn as much as I can. I like consistency, so when I’m not filming, I try to have a pretty solid routine in place of workouts, hobbies, solo time, and social time.
