Sydelle Noel is an actress to watch for her role in the Netflix original series G.L.O.W.  and the upcoming Marvel film Black Panther. Interview by Deborah Ferguson.

What was your first thought when you found out you were cast in The Black Panther?

The process was long, I didn’t find out til months later that I had a callback and after the callback it took about week until I found out I booked it.  I remember, I was on set with my G.L.O.W. girls celebrating and then I was like, “SHIT! I have to shave my head.”

Can you share insights about your character and what she represents?

I play one of the Dora Milaje…Dora’s are the personal bodyguards and royal security of Black Panther. We are strong warriors and you will see that women can kick ass just as well as the men in this film. That’s all I can say.

What does it mean to you professionally and symbolically to be in the Black Panther Marvel film?

The fact that I got to be a part of this ground-breaking film is amazing and a dream.  This film is going to be huge, I have no doubt in my mind and I’m just so happy that I’m in it and will be apart of history in the making.

Can you describe the training needed for your role in Netflix series GLOW and Black Panther?

I’m very athletic and a workout junkie, but the training for G.L.O.W.  to become a wrestler and Black Panther a badass warrior that’s proficient in using a bo staff was something I never guessed I would do.  We had 4 weeks of training for G.L.O.W.  5 days a week learning wrestling moves and just being comfortable in the ring. Plus, we trained while filming.

Training did not stop and I loved every bruise, every moment someone did an amazing move. It was a thrill, a thrill that prepared me for the training on Black Panther. It was similar as far as training for about 4 weeks before we even shot anything.

How is your character evolving on TV series Arrow ?  Do you like shooting in Vancouver?

I can’t really discuss that because I truthfully don’t know where my character is going, but I do love Vancouver and being on the show.

Is your daily lifestyle based around training? if so what are some of your favorite styles of training?

Yes, it is. I workout 6 days a week and sometimes 7.  My go to is cardio and weight training which I love.  Occasionally I do other things like cycling, swimming, boxing, hiking, crossfit, kickboxing, etc. There’s nothing I wont try physically. I’m even doing yoga now.

Do you have any lifestyle / health philosophies that you want to share that might inspire fellow health & fitness junkies?

Always stay ready, so you don’t have to get ready. That’s my motto.
