the best natural deodorants

As the summer weather is upon us, it’s time to share some of my favorite summer essentials. One of the most important products I want to start with is Natural Deodorant. Regardless of the disappointing evidence, which confirms aluminum isn’t a verified ingredient and can cause breast cancer and affect your hormones, it is key to help prevent sweating.

Natural Deodorants don’t stop perspiration but can curb body odor and are safer to use overall. Trying natural deodorants is a challenging personal experience, as some include talc, baking soda and ingredients that clog my armpit pores or can cause an extreme rash. My skin is extremely sensitive so finding natural deodorants without side effects is a feat in itself. I also take their scent into consideration, as I like to wear perfume that doesn’t compete with my deodorant. I’m a longtime supporter of using natural, aluminum free, alcohol free, baking soda free deodorant products. It’s a safer option, considering the overload of toxins we are exposed in the air, food, water, etc.

I tested and tried some of my favorite products based on their ingredients for sensitive skin and their alleged natural odor control. I want to start with the unisex options, as I find that most  deodorants in the clean beauty category are great for any type of skin, non-residue, clothing friendly when one does sweat, easy to wash off and can ensure a long lasting odor free experience.

One of the best natural deodorants I’ve tried thus far. My skin is very sensitive and this deodorant brand is by far one I will champion. It’s non-irritating,  glides on gently, is moisturizing, residue-free, and a long-lasting odor free experience.

I had zero rash. It was easy to wash off and it lasted through a 12-hour hot day. I rate the lasting power as a 10 on a scale of 1 to 10. It’s an excellent unisex brand.

The Eucalyptus and Citronellyl formulation is effective for keeping odor at bay without an overpowering scent. I understand why this particular brand and scent have the ongoing cult status.

Australian certified non-toxic, natural roll-on unisex deodorant packaged in glass bottle, has a cool soothing effect that dries immediately after application. It has a non-stain, non-residue formula, and it didn’t irritate my skin in the slightest. The advanced formula is comprised of Icelandic moss extract provides odor free, neutralizing, anti-fungal, anti- bacterial benefits which also sooth irritated skin. The sage complex works by eliminating odor. The other natural plant based compounds and extracts are Tamanu seed oil, licorice extract, which eliminate bacteria and soften skin. The light fresh scent of sandalwood and orange has a subtle, long-lasting effect which I can rate as a 10.

After trying the Modern Spice I was surprised by the unique cream formula application and the fresh scent: vetiver, red cedar wood and eucalyptus.

It’s non-residue texture, clothing friendly, non-irritating and long lasting. I was curious about their ‘sweat activated’ manifesto, which in fact is true and a new concept for the natural deodorant market. It absorbs easily and my skin didn’t react. The deodorant washed off quite easily while showering. Their deodorants come in interesting unisex scents that don’t overwhelm you when you apply. The scent is activated when you start sweating. The packaging is convenient, no mess, squeezable tubes. Perfect size and weight to carry in shoulder bag or travel with. 10 out of 10 for lasting results.

I love this signature Italian Acqua di Parma scent in the form of a deodorant stick. The fragrance is based on a men’s cologne. However, I’d say it’s a great unisex scent. The clear gel like formula glides on and instantly dries, washes off easily and is a non-irritating formula that was testes after I shave my arm pits. I’d categorize this brand as a great summer essence to wear on the go or to replace my scent on a hot day. It’s a noted luxury brand, yet not over priced for what you get. Aside from it’s amazing scent, it is clothing friendly. Acqua Di Parma’s key scent notes  citrus, English lavender, Bulgarian Rose and Verbena. A sophisticated, fresh essence which I love. However, I want to rate this as a 9, as it doesn’t have the lasting odor free formula in heat or working out.

I’m a supporter of the Austrian Susanne Kaufmann products as they use a result driven blend of active plant ingredients that are extracted via cold press. When I use their products comprised of complex formulas, I feel as I’m not using diluted formulas.

The spray-on deodorizes naturally as this formula is composed of mineral based compounds and flower-based distillates, no paraben or aluminum. I’d say it’s more of feminine scent, but still can be considered unisex, like all of their products.

The  clear formula can get a bit cloudy due to the high level of natural ingredients and that is ok as the lasting effect is amazing and without residue. I was surprised how this spray formula takes a few seconds to dry, is clothing friendly, disappears and is very easy to wash off. I rate as 9 for its long-lasting effect and being an authentic natural product.

This San Francisco based award-winning vegan deodorant comes in many scents for men and women. I like the seasonal Jasmine/Cherry blossom. The texture is so well formulated and smooth, almost invisible texture. I didn’t feel as though I applied deodorant.

The gentle formula is like using natural baby products. The scent is delicate and comforting. I applied this deodorant at the beginning of a long hot day. To be honest, it wasn’t as long-lasting as I had hoped. However, it’s skin-friendly delicate formula can easily be reapplied without feeling like you are overloading your skin with a heavy product. They use just 14 natural ingredients that rightly maintains their ongoing award-winning status. I rate Native 9 out of 10.

The rose scented roll-on natural deodorant has been one of my favorite deodorants for a number of years, as I’m also fan of their skincare products. Their formulas have remained consistently pure and natural over many decades. The roll-on deodorant is a gentle, non-irritating, long-lasting, residue free formula and is easy to wash off. Aside from that, it is one of my favorite floral scents: rose. I find their scent to be absolutely divine and authentic.

It’s considered natural and safe. However, there is a light amount of alcohol. The key ingredients which ensure a long-lasting odor free experience are: Lady’s mantle extract to balance skin perspiration, Neem oil and sage extracts deodorize, rose essential oil, jojoba oil, rose water to nurture your skin, and tapioca starch to absorb moisture. 10 out 10 for long-lasting, being gentle on one’s skin, and for their glass bottle packaging.

The seductive, long-lasting rose scent almost cancels out the bad side effects. I had to include this brand as it is a natural ingredient based product. However the formula doesn’t work on my sensitive skin. My armpits broke out in a severe oozing rash that needed more than 10 days to heal. It was hard to wash off, left tons of white thick residual, and clogged my pores.

Unfortunately, I purchased it via Amazon and it came with a no refund policy, which isn’t ideal for its high price point. Sadly, they don’t have an efficient, inhouse customer service. It’s disappointing for me to see luxury high-priced products on the market that don’t take their customers seriously. I can’t authentically recommend this product based on the scent I love, due to a severe, hard to heal rash I have tried thus far. Rating: 1 out of 10.
