CHANEL SPRING SUMMER 2022

La Pausa MAKEUP Collection

By Deborah Ferguson

The new Chanel Spring Summer 2022 La Pausa Makeup Collection is inspired by La Pausa,Villa in Roquebrune, France. The iconic Riviera Villa was where Gabrielle Chanel went to relax for more than 20 years. She hosted some of her inspiring friends, including Jean Cocteau, Misia Sert, and Salvador Dalí. The villa is nestled within an idyllic dramatic nature setting of the Côte d’Azur. La Pausa is an essential, beautiful testament to the vision, history, and heritage of Gabrielle Chanel.

The makeup color palette is inspired by the warm light reflections of the Mediterranean sun. The sheer warm, glowing palette tones epitomizes the effortless beauty and glamour of the French Riviera

La Pausa collection launches two new Blush Lumiere tones ; Peche Rosee and Brun Roussi.

Each blush is embossed with sunrays highlighting their luminous tone. The soft buildable texture with a subtle shimmer works as both a blush and a tan enhancer. Brun Rossi is a perfect tone for my olive complexion; the result was using it lightly was for a sun kissed look. If I used it heavily it would translate as a intense red blush. Peche Rosee is a gold shimmer, coral tone the lighter of the 2 tones is perfect for a mid to light skin complexion. Overall, when applied beautiful blushes deliver a soft, long lasting, subtle look.

The Baume stick is one of my favorite summer makeup products in the La Pausa collection. The new tone Ensolielle a sheer, shimmery pink coral glow with the perfect lasting dewy effect.

I start with Les Beiges healthy glow foundation in B40 then layer with the Brun Rossi blush and layer on the Baume Essentiel to my cheek bones.

Its formula delivers a dewy, subtle, glowing long lasting look. I use it on my eye lids and lips for a daytime light glow and add to my cheek bones at night to enhance my tan

Les 4 Ombres: Limited-Edition Multi-Effect Quadra Eyeshadow MÉDITERRANÉEN

The Neutral, bright, luminous tones of the Les 4 Ombres in Mediterranean are the one of the most neutral CHANEL Quad eye shadows they have created. The overall shimmer formulation created with a baked gelee in a soft consistency, with a light to medium pigmentation. The four shimmers in soft taupe, sandy bronze, soft gold, and champagne work well with all skin tones. I find the champagne for day with a smudge of CHANEL eyeliner & mascara is a perfect summer day look. For a more dramatic evening look blending all 4 tones gives the ultimate sheer, shimmery, bright but golden ombre wash of color.

The Ombre Premiere Laque in Lumiere 46, is a stay put once applied liquid eye color. The Gold shimmer tone delivers a veil of gold sparkle. Used alone or layered it’s a easy blend that can have a soft minimal effect or a dramatic feel. It’s neutral enough to work with other tones, mix with eyeliner. What I appreciate the most about this eye pigment is you don’t need a lot and it doesn’t crease, has a long-lasting effect.

The spirit of La Pausa inspired Chanel Research and the Chanel Makeup Creation Studio to develop a new lip care product with unique formula by combining the pigment in a lipstick with the moisturizing benefits of a baume.

Rouge Coco Baume uses the active ingredient, shea butter, and the signature ingredient of ROUGE COCO line which are the heart of the Hydra Boost Complex: three plant waxes. ROUGE COCO BAUME is a hydrating Tinted Lip Balm; easy to apply, lip enhancing natural looking buildable color. The silky formula offers a long-lasting moisture and lip care.

ROUGE COCO BAUM in six shades, each tone inspired by the image of the flowers that grow around La Pausa. From a very sheer, invisible tone, nude brown, fresh pink, fuchsia, coral pink, rose pink to a mid-burgundy tone.

The cream opaque Les Vernis in Riviera and Terra Rosa are the perfect summer vacation tones. The elegant Terra Rossa 917 (pink, brown, warm tone almost neutral) is true to the color in the bottle and its warm subtle tone is great for all skin tones. I used two coats of each tone which was enough. Riviera 915 (bright pale yellow) is bright but wearable pastel tone for summer statement nails. Le Vernis in Terra Rossa and Riviera are chic nail tones that work well with the La Pausa makeup collection.

Villa La Pausa Overview:

The architecture of a simple, inviting, and peaceful Provençal villa. In the 1920s, high on the ridge of  Roquebrune Cap-Martin, Gabrielle Chanel had a house built in her image and filled it with private references: five windows above the front door in homage to her favorite number, 5, a banister inspired by Aubazine, the place where she grew up, and a large star above her bed, symbolizing her fascination with constellations. During her romance with the Duke of Westminster in the late 20s, fashion legend Coco Chanel received a piece of land by her lover near Monte Carlo. This 10,000-square-foot villa she used as her summer home from 1929 to 1953, named La Pausa

She named it La Pausa after the legend that Mary Magdalene rested near here under the olive trees on her flight from Jerusalem after Jesus’s Crucifixion. La Pausa refers to the place where one “pauses.” (In 2007, Chanel’s master perfumer Jacques Polge created a powdery, iris-based scent called 28 La Pausa as part of his “Les Exclusifs” collection.) Coco brought in ancient olive trees and planted “groves of orange trees, great slopes of lavender, masses of purple iris, and huge clusters of climbing roses,” American Vogue wrote about the house in 1930. The magazine declared La Pausa “one of the most enchanting villas that ever materialized on the shores of the Mediterranean.”

The Villa La Pausa is rightfully not what Chanel is most renowned for however in its way it epitomises the glamour of the French Riviera.  Effortlessly beautiful with views East towards Menton and Italy whilst West lies Monaco, Cap Ferrat peninsula and Nice. The Villa itself sits above Roquebrune-Cap-Martin amongst perfumed gardens and olive groves, a part of a perfect Riviera scene.
